Housewifely

I baked these for a cake sale at my daughters school. I kick ass as a housewife.

Hilly, and with a lot of posters advertising drum and bass nights.

History of Oil

Cannot recommend this highly enough.

Rob Newman’s History of Oil

Tourists

This man has just arrived in Bristol from the 1960s.

More bikes

Bicycles

This is a complicated picture, not entirely sure that I like it, but cities are complicated places to live, a fact which is difficult to portray pictorially without being messy.

Buses speak to me

Cathedral

Really exquisite place.

The most beautiful thing though is this flight of steps, worn down by monks coming down to evening prayer every night for I don't know how many hundreds of years.

At Last

It is the classic of classics. Setting a standard for production values and for acting that is on it's own. It is
Ardenlee Avenue

A New Theory

I am working on a new theory that suggests that any photograph containing a bicycle cannot be all bad. Or perhaps that there is no such thing as a bad photo with a bike in it. I am testing this out by taking lots of pictures. Here is one.

OK if you insist.

I am now going to bow to public demand and post a picture of myself. A complete lack of vanity coupled with a huge amount of personal humility and cool prevented me from doing so before. So here you go.

Automatic Doors - a minor obsession

There are many reasons for my enthusiasm for automatic doors, perhaps I will go into those later, but I have been pleased to find many great examples of the genre in Bristol. There is an enormous soulless expanse of mall called Cribb's Causeway that is just coming down with the things.
Here's quite a nice one:

This is a detail from the same door.

If that's not a metaphor for fragile human mortality trapped within a runaway machine driven ecological nightmare then I don't know what is.

Importerance

Of course it was Ardenlee Avenue that started it all off, and although the original work is not yet available online, this trailer gives a flavour of the gritty drama and dark 'urban noir' feel of the original. Many say that subsequent work, such as The End Justifies the Means surpasses the first film with it's brooding monochrome and more contemplative pace, but I think the freshness of Ardenlee Avenue makes it the stronger film. Can't wait for Wonderboyd, the latest prequel, which should be released soon.

A lonely furrow

Thank goodness there is still one Lighter Fluid fansite out there keeping the faith, till the lads get back on the road. Great news about the album too.

    Curves: conspiracy?

On Saturday I visited a building that contained this staircase.

Later I walked along this street.

    Coincidence? Draw your own conclusions.

    Everybody likes OKGO now

I would just like to point out that I liked them 3 years ago when hardly anybody did. They are still brilliant though they will probably become crap soon with their new found success. Always the way. Anyway check out the excellent dancing on treadmills here.

    Really Very Good

Better start linking to things. The fine work being done by the people at 'Importerance' has been an inspiration to me today.
I have included a couple of links in the list of links over there at the side. Seek out their work, for it will reward study, and deepen your deepness.

Also this will increase your understanding. Or perhaps merely get on your tits, who knows.

    First post

This feels a bit like standing in a room with a box on my head. An empty room. Here is a picture of a proscenium arch in an old abandoned theatre. Lets call that the past.

This is a picture of the rudder and propeller of the SS Great Britain. So let that represent the present.
